Niente male... (Not so bad....)

Here is an update on the Children of Lir stole for my mother. I'm pleased of how it is turning out, but I'm doubtful on how it will block: the yarn is blended cotton...

Last night I was knitting the black stole for my mother's birthday with n. 6 mm needles, in golden metal, the ones that make that special ticking sound while knitting. I noted that one of the needles is damaged in the middle and the yarn doesn't shift well. I need new needles....

Scambio! (Swap!)

lunedì 28 aprile 2008

Ho scambiato i miei gomitoli! Wow! Non vedo l'ora che arrivino...

I swapped my stash! An English lady wants some of my sockyarn and she'll send me three balls of Noro Kureyon. I sent her some leftovers too to make contrasting ribbing and toes in her socks. Wow! I can't look forward to seeing them!

Come si fila la lana? (How to spindle spin?)

Provare, provare, provare....

I spin with a top down spindle. The correct way is clearly shown in
this video. It's not difficult once you've grasped the gesture. The tactile feeling is amazing: the soft roving shifts through the fingers and becomes a multicolor yarn. The true problem is the right tension. I've understood that the thinner the yarn, the faster must turn the spindle, otherwise the hair doesn't twist enough and the yarn would break. I have to practise a lot....
