La signora del negozio dice che a dispetto dell'etichetta si devono lavorare coi ferri 3 1/2, 10 punti e tre gomitoli, maglia rasata o legaccio, e la sciarpa è fatta. Proverò.

The owner of the yarn shop says that they must be knitted with n. 3 1/2 mm. needles, in spite of label directions: 10 sts in st st or garter st and tre balls, and the scarf is done. I'll try.

Mi hanno regalato un Ipod nuovo, quello vecchio dopo 7 anni di uso indefesso, agonizza: la batteria dura circa due ore ed è stato destinato a riproduttore di musica per bimbi in cucina, perennemente attaccato alla presa.

I've received a new Ipod, the old one has almost died given that the battery charge lasts olny a couple of hours, and now it is used as a children music player in the kitchen, always connected to the recharger.

Mi sono fissata con i podcast: amo la radio ma mi è impossibile ascoltarla per ragioni di tempo. C'è un programma che adoro: Radio Tre - Il terzo anello - AD ALTA VOCE. Attori famosi leggono romanzi. Ho scaricato tutte le puntate delle Sorelle Materassi, uno spasso. E me le ascolto a letto la sera, quando la giornata è (forse) finita. Mi addormento così, con la storia della buona notte.

I'm mad about podcasts: I've found a wonderful radio broadcast, AD ALTA VOCE (with a loud voice), in which famous actors read great novels. And I've downloaded "Sorelle Materassi", by Aldo Palazzeschi, and I listen to it when I go to bed, at last. I fall asleep like this, with a goodnight story.

Dicembre (December)

E' già dicembre, e non mi sono fatta viva per un pò. Lavori in corso: un paio di calzini, un adult surprise jacket per me, e poi ho finito Charles, ma non ho ancora fatto una foto decente. Ecco invece la foto di un maglioncino carino che ho fatto a Damiano la scorsa primavera, ma non avevo ancora pubblicato: ferri 4, filato Grignasco Piccolo Tweed, sofficissima ed extra resistente ai lavaggi. Lavorato dal collo in giù, in tondo.

It's december yet, and I've not been blogging for a while. Works in progress: a pair of socks, an adult surprise jacket for me, and I've finished Charles too, but couldn't take a decent picture since now. Here is a nice sweater knitted last spring for Damiano with 4 mm needles, yarn Grignasco Piccolo Tweed, super soft and superwash. Worked in the round from the top down.

Sono tornata a cantare (I'm back at singing classes)

Sono tornata al corso di canto. Il controllo della voce si è un pò perso, ovviamente, ma è andata meno peggio di quello che immaginavo.

I've started my singing classes again. My voice control is lacking, but it's normal after such a long period of rest. Well, in the end I'm not so bad.

Per ora canto un pò di musica leggera, il coro dovrà aspettare ancora, non ho tempo per le prove ed i concerti. Ho cominciato con queste:

Fallimenti, ma... (Failures, but... )

Niente da fare, 'ste calzine al ragazzino proprio non gli aggradano. E allora niente. E a scuola ci va lo stesso. Vogliamo parlare dell'ACDC: carino, veramente carino... in taglia 12 anni. Smontato. Però, guarda un pò , mi sono accorta che questo filato, Ornaghi Supermerino, si lavora a 3 punti per pollice... giusti giusti per fare una giacca modello Tomten da adulti (sempre lei, EZ). E ricominciamo, però questa volta mi sa che ci siamo.

There's nothing to do, he (the kid) doesn't like my socks. Frogged. And what about my ACDC: lovely, but in a teen size. Frogged. But I realized that the yarn knits at 3 sts per inch... the exact tension for an Adult Tomten (EZ again). Maybe that's the right time.

A scuola non ci vado (I don't want to go at school)

Dichiarazione di ogni mattina di Damiano. Pianti, urla, occhioni tristi... poi appena mi allontano si mette a giocare. Diventerà un politico, già lo so.

This is what my son Damiano tells every morning. He screams and shows certain sad eyes... until I leave him and go away, then he starts playing with other kids. He will be a politician, I suspect.

Per farmi perdonare gli avevo fatto un paio di calzine, che però non gli sono piaciute ovviamente. Allora sto provando con queste: modello Moccasin socks, della solita EZ. Un pò astruse, ma il risultato sembra interessante. Vedremo se gli aggradano.

Hoping to be forgiven I've knitted him a pair of socks, that of course he didn't like. I'm now trying with these: Moccasin socks, by EZ. We'll see if they meet his taste.

Fine estate (End of summer)

Alla fine la pioggia, tanto agognata, è arrivata. E l'estate sta finendo. Mi sa che non mi dispiace più di tanto, è stata calda e faticosissima.

Finito! E da almeno due settimane, è che non ho avuto un attimo di tempo per rendere noto il fatto. Come testimonia la foto sono totalmente esaurita. Utilissime le note trovate su Ravelry: l'affarino veste larghetto e l'ho fatto in taglia S. Risultato perfetto, come nella foto di Knitty (modella a parte....). E adesso... ho ricominciato con questo.

Done, and finished at least two weeks ago but I hadn't the time to post it. Thanks to all Ravellers for useful notes: this thing tends to be larger the size suggests, so I've knit it in size S and it fits perfectly (just like in Knitty's picture, except for the model...). And now I've started this project... again.

Piedini felici (Happy feet)

Ho comprato dei sandaletti nuovi a Damiano ma per lui che sa solo correre e non camminare non andavano bene, perchè gli scappavano sempre dai piedi. Ecco la soluzione: due striscette di spighetta blu dietro.

I've bought a new pair of shoes to my elder son, who's used to run: this kind is not the best, they were always slipping off his feet. But here is the solution: two blue strips in the back.

La tisana (the tisane)

Ogni sera è diventata un appuntamento fisso. Ho un'amica erborista che mi fornisce le erbe ed io assemblo su sua indicazione: semi di finocchio freschi, centella e foglioline di menta appena raccolte dal vasetto sul balcone e spezzettate. Metto su un pentolino d'acqua e butto dentro una manciata di tutti gli ingredienti, aspetto che bollisca e spengo. Lascio riposare cinque minuti, filtro e sbevazzo due tazze. Dopo due settimane le gambe, che mi pesavano come massi, sono leggere leggere. Senza pillolami vari.

It has become my night date with herbs: a tisane with fennel seeds, centella and mint. I put some water in a pot, warm it till it boils and add the herbs, let it rest five minutes and filter. Two weeks and my legs are so light... without pills.

Una nuova amica (A new friend)

Non mi rimproverate, ho una vita complicata.

Ieri mi telefona Zeila, una ragazza con la quale ho avuto una corrispondenza magliesca negli ultimi tempi, e mi dice: "Domani vi verremmo a trovare, io e la mia bimba". Guardo la casa: casino totale, sabbia dappertutto. Ma la mia vita sociale è ridotta a zero ed ho proprio bisogno di vedere qualcuno. "Ok", rispondo. Oggi pomeriggio eccole, lei veramente simpatica e la bimbetta di due anni, una bambolina. Parliamo di bimbi (ma dorme? e cosa mangia?) e un pochino di maglia, soprattutto del tempo che manca per farla. Ci salutiamo con la promessa di rivederci.

Che bello, una nuova amica.

Don't reproach me, I have a hard life.
Yesterday I've had a call from Zeila, a mail/blog knitting friend, and today she has come to visit me with her little girl, 2 yrs. Lovely both of them! We have talked about kids (do they sleep? what are they used to eat?) and a bit about knitting, and the lack of time to do it as much as we would like. I hope we will meet again soon.

Canestro (Basket)

Magia della lana, Lang Yarns Millecolori. Il modello è mio, originale, ma non mi chiedete come l'ho fatto perchè non mi ricordo più. I punti: legaccio sul carrè, entrelac (ma in italiano si chiama canestro?) sul corpetto e semplice maglia rasata nelle maniche, anche se l'effetto è rigato perchè la lana è sfumata. Niente male vero?

Wonder of yarn: Lang Yarns Millecolori. The pattern is mine, but don't ask me what I did because I can't recall it. Stitches: garther st on the yoke, entrelac the rest, stockinette st in the sleeves, but the overall effect is striped because the yarn is multicolored. Not bad, isn't it?

Primavera (Spring time)

Finalmente è arrivato il caldo ed ho tirato fuori la roba più leggera per Damiano. Sorpresa: il Gasolino gli viene ancora, anzi forse gli sta anche meglio. Ed i pantaloni di gabardin con le tasche ed il granchietto che gli ho cucito quest'inverno gli stanno a meraviglia. Piuttosto, li avevo tagliati in taglia 4 anni - 104 cm di altezza, pensando che così li avrebbe messi per un pò, invece mi sembrano proprio giusti giusti. Peccato che lui ha solo due anni. Mah!

Hot spring weather has come, at last. I've picked up all the light garments for Damiano and surprise! Gasolino is still wearable, even if one year has passed. And the trousers I sewed this winter are perfect on him ( hem... I cut them size 4 yrs - 104 cm height, but they fit well... but the kid is only 2 yrs! He is a bit tall I think).

Per il resto, fra una poppata e l'altra mi sto cimentando con un PI Shawl.

Troooppo bello! (Tooooo much beautiful!)

Ho ordinato qualche settimana fa due libri, "The knitter's handy book of patterns" e "The knitter's handy book of sweater patterns" di Ann Budd. Me li ha suggeriti l'impareggiabile Typesetter, e mai consiglio è stato più apprezzato. Devo dire che il secondo soprattutto è veramente strepitoso: ci sono le istruzioni per realizzare praticamente tutti i tipi di maglioni, in tutte le taglie e con qualsiasi grossezza di lana. Un sogno. Aspetto di recuperare sufficiente lucidità per scegliere un bel maglioncino da fare per Damiano (il grande). Nel frattempo, poco prima e poco dopo il parto, sono riuscita a terminare un cardigan per me ed un maglioncino sempre per Damiano. Mi piacerebbe avere il tempo di bloccarli in forma.... e farveli vedere.

PS. Grazie per tutti gli auguri per la nascita di Lorenzo. Ricambio per tutti i bimbi in arrivo!!!

Some weeks ago I ordered two books: "The knitter's handy book of patterns" and "The knitter's handy book of sweater patterns", from Ann Budd. I've been suggested by Typesetter, and it's been a really good advise. The second one is particularly interesting: it contains directions to knit almost all sweater patterns in all sizes and all gauges. A dream. I'm waiting to have some mental relax to work on a sweater for Damiano (the elder kid). In the meanwhile, before and after the birth of Lorenzo, I've knitted a cardi for me and finished a sweater for Damiano. I should have the time to block them... and show you.

PS. Thanks for all the wishes for the birth of Lorenzo. The same to you and to all the arriving babies!!!

Eccolo qui: Lorenzo, 3 chili, arrivato due settimane in anticipo il 28 marzo, tutto pappa cacca nanna, beato lui che non ha altri problemi. Damiano, il fratellino grande di 2 anni, per semplificare le cose si è fatto venire una tonsillite con febbre a 39 il pomeriggio della corsa in ospedale, così lo abbiamo lasciato dai nonni per com'era, pigiamino e tachipirine. Alla fine ce l'abbiamo fatta, ci ripetiamo che è solo questione di organizzazione... c'è sempre un pannolino da cambiare, un biberon di latte da scaldare, la pasta con l'ovetto per il grande, il bagnetto con l'olio Johnson del piccolo, ma il body lana fuori cotone dentro dov'è finito?

Here he is: Lorenzo, 3 kgs, born on march 28th, two weeks before. Damiano (the elder brother, 2 yrs) had high fever that same day just to make it simpler, so we left him to the grandparents in a rush. Now we're back home, and we continue repeating that it's only a matter of good planning: nappies, feeding bottles, pasta with egg for the big one, where has all the wool/cotton underwear gone??

Ricordate le manine alacri della mia mamma? Ecco il prodotto finito, rossa come la fortuna e con un bel nastrino scozzese intorno. E brava la nonna!

Ancora robina per bimbi (some babies' things more!)

L'ultimo, giuro che è l'ultimo, almeno per un pò. Ne ho fatti troppi di questi BSJ, ma sono una specie di droga. Questo l'ho fatto con una bellissima Mondial Ecco con sfumature in giallo e avanzi di Grignasco Merino fine e Merino Gold. Tutte utilizzate fino all'ultimo centimetro, quindi niente cordino intorno, però è carino lo stesso.

It's the last one BSJ, I promise (at least for a bit...). Yarns: Mondial Ecco (shaded one) and leftovers of Grignasco Merinofine and Merinogold in yellow, all used till the last inch, so no I-cord, but I like it as well.

E questo è un gilet da fighetto che ho fatto qualche tempo fa per Damiano, con un bel punto a quadrucci che fa un pò college. Grignasco Merinogold in bianco e blu elettrico.


And this is a little vest for my two years old kid Damiano, with a nice pattern in the middle college style. Yarn: Grignasco Merinogold.

Panzotta (Belly)

Eccola qui, la mia panzotta di sette mesi e mezzo avvolta nel gilet Noro che sta risultando utilissimo. Diciamo che già sono stanca... ma quando arriva???

Damiano ha rotto l'ennesimo telefonino. Sono andata in un negozio chiedendo un modello ANTIBAMBINO. La commessa mi ha guardato perplessa. Alla fine ne ho scelto uno con tecnologia elementare: chiamate ed sms, schermo monocromatico, tasti giganti e costo irrisorio. Il migliore affare della mia vita. E quanto dura dura.

Damiano broke another mobile. I've purchased a new one, asking for a kid-proof model.... at last my choice has been for a basic one, calls and sms, monochromatic display and small price. So I don't have to care for how long it lasts.

tweed

Il tweed mi piace, assai. E queste calzine si sono guadagnate un posto d'onore, belle calducce, un pò maschili forse... Finite queste ho cominciato un nuovo BSJ per il nuovo bimbo (a proposito, si chiamerà Lorenzo): per fortuna gli altri due sono scampati al lavaggio selvaggio, solo perchè li avevo conservati così bene che non li trovavo più. Almeno questi...

I do really like tweed yarn, and these socks have a special place among my favorites, so warm they are and even a bit manly... Now I've started a new BSJ for the new baby (well, his name will be Lorenzo): fortunately the two other BSJs have saved from the crazy washer only because I couldn't find them. Something survived at least!

Lavaggi selvaggi (crazy washing)

Lavatrice pazza colpisce ancora. Ho cominciato a rinfrescare tutte le tutine piccole di Damiano per l'arrivo del fratellino, previsto per i primi di aprile. Naturalmente mi sono incasinata e nel cesto ho messo pure tutti i golfini di lana che mia suocera aveva fatto amorevolmente per Damiano, ho selezionato 60° ed avviato con doppio risciacquo. Ho pianto ininterrottamente per due ore: le tutine sono perfette, ma i golfini si sono irreparabilmente infeltriti. Ho salvato solo i bottoncini, mia suocera si è impegnata a rifarli di nuovo... amore di nonna.

Crazy washer is back: I've started washing all the tiny clothes I used for Damiano, his brother is due for the beginning of April. Unfortunately I've washed together all the wool sweaters and jackets my mother-in-law did for him, and selected 60° degrees. Everything wooly felted. I cried two hours at least. My mother-in-law has promised to knit them again, just keep the buttons she said....

Per il resto poca roba, abbiamo avuto l'influenza a turno e ci siamo trascinati per circa tre settimane fra tachipirine ed antibiotici. Sembra passato, io ho cominciato delle calzette tweed, lavorate insieme col metodo magic loop dalla punta, così non mi devo ricordare tutti i punti che metto e calo. Funziona, ma forse sarebbe meglio concentrarsi su qualche altro BSJ visto il danno che ho fatto.Nothing more, we all have been flu for more or less three weeks. Now it's a bit better, and I've started some tweed socks, worked together with the magic loop method, toe up so I don't have to remind every inc and dec I knit. It works, but I must rush to work on some BSJ more given the disaster I did.

Collezione estiva (summer collection)

In queste feste mi sono ritrovata a cucire un pò, naturalmente non per me (a parte una cosina che mi sa che mostrerò qualche altra volta) ma per Pitch. Ho trovato del bel gabardine di cotone ed un modello di pantaloni lunghi su un vecchio Burda con tasconi laterali ed elastico in vita e alle caviglie. Qualche piccola modifica e ho tirato fuori tre versioni diverse: quella originale in blu elettrico con tasca con pieghe, una in beige con tasca liscia ed una in azzurro con taschine sul dietro con granchietto applicato. Ha gradito, soprattutto il granchietto. E la maglia? Procede anche quella, un pò più lentamente...

During these holidays I've sewed a bit, not for me obviously (except for a little thing that I'll show you one of the next times) but for Pitch (Damiano). I've purchased some cotton gabardine tissue and found a pattern for summer trousers on an old Burda magazine. The pattern has a fisherman look, with pockets on the sides and elastics on the belt and the bottom of the legs. With some little modifications I've realized three different trousers: the original one, in electric blue, a beige pair with flat pocket and a light blue one with pockets in the back, with applied crab. He loved all, the crab most. And what about knitting? It goes on, more slowly....
