Gennaio (January)

A volte succede in Sicilia. 9 gennaio, 16°C fuori.
It happens in Sicily, sometimes. January the 9th, 16°C outside temperature. Good for a fast swim with diving suit and fins: DH came back with the usual tale of a huge octopus he has struggled with for 10 minutes without being able to tear it out the reef. The right goodnight story for kids...
I took advantage of the weather for a stroll by the seaside with an old, rusty, almost brakeless bike:
The village seems sleepy like in a fairy tale, all the bigger boats are on the wharf for the annual check.
Rischi professionali (Stash busting risks)
In magliavenerdì 7 gennaio 2011
I've started this pair of fingerless mitts with the aim of stash busting a bit: the pattern called for 50 gr. of contrast color and I've chosen a golden yarn, Ornaghi Sax. Unfortunately, at the end of first mitt the ball is almost entirely consumed. I checked on Ravelry: it is a 25 gr ball. Impossible to find another ball in local yarn shops. I've found a similar yarn, but I'm not sure if the difference will be visible. I have an answer: if I have to buy a new ball to stash bust of almost half two, is the process working?
Brillano! (Sparkling!)

In poche parole: Endpaper Mitts.
I've a lot of "dirty" work to do in almost finished knits: sew - weave in loose ends - block... what a bore.
I need a sparkling project to sail towards the New Year. Yarn picked up from stash, olive green background (to match with my favourite coat) with gold color pattern. In few words: Endpaper Mitts.
Calcoli (Math)
In maglia, In zimmermanngiovedì 16 dicembre 2010
I'm done with back, fronts and slevees but I hate sewing and so I'm waiting for Christmas holidays to start this effort.
In the meanwhile I've begun a new project: an Iceland Yoke Sweater by EZ for Damiano, size 5 yrs because he will have to wear it for soooo long. A bit of math:

And some modifications: 1) it will be a cardi this too; 2) I hate steeking and cutting. I'm working it back and forth; 3) it's knitted top down.
- ehm, no circulars. I've found out that I'm better at stranding with straight needles, so I'll go on with these as long as possible. EZ, don't be so doubtful please.
Dov'è la differenza? (What is the difference?)

Fuori dal bagno (Out of the bath)

The dyebath, of course...
With the red bath from the boston ivy leaves I've obtained a beatiful green. What happened to the red?... Who knows. Then I've squeezed two lemons and added the juice to the bath to reach a more acid solution and simmered a new alum mordanted half ball. And it has become orange.
That's chemistry, guys, no cheats.
