Vado in ferie (I'm going to start a holiday period)

Ho preso le ferie dal 24 dicembre all'1 gennaio, quindi niente lavoro da domani fino al 2 gennaio. Penso che mi prenderò una vacanza anche dal blog, dove rallenterò un pò il mio ritmo di scrittura. Naturalmente non mancherò di postare tutti i regali di Natale che ho preparato indossati dai rispettivi destinatari... speriamo bene!!! E poi vi farò vedere i miei libri di maglia, non vedo l'ora di scartarli! Intanto ho un problema con le Monkey socks: le sto lavorando con i ferri circolari 2,5 mm, ma ho l'impressione che siano un pò troppo lente: mi sa che disfo tutto, compro dei ferri n.2 (se li trovo...) e ricomincio tutto daccapo. E' dura la vita della maglista!

Auguro a tutti di passare buone feste e di sferruzzare un sacco.

I'm going to have a Christmas holiday from tomorrow until the 2th of January, when I'll be back at work, and I 'll take a little rest from blogging, too. Neverthless, I'll post the pictures I want to take of all my Christmas presents: the ones I have knitted (weared by the receivers) and the ones I'll receive! I can't look forward to open my knitting books!! Now, however, I've a problem with Monkey socks: I'm working with n. 2,5 mm circular needles, but it seems to be a bit loose, so I think I'll start again with n. 2 mm (that I have to purchase, yet). That's the hard life of a knitter!

Ultima lezione del mercoledì (last wednesday knitting class)

Eccoci, ieri ho finito il corso del mercoledì. Celeste ha portato un lavoro incredibile: sta realizzando per un suo amico una COPERTA a maglia, a righe panna e grigio! E' bellissima, caldissima, e grandissima! Poi sta finendo una bella sciarpa gialla da regalare per Natale, con una trecciona al centro. Barbara ha portato un volume di una incredibile enciclopedia dei lavori femminili degli anni '70 con un sacco di modelli a maglia, e ne ha scelto uno molto interessante: un giaccone con un bel collo. Abbiamo letto le istruzioni insieme perchè lo vorrebbe realizzare. Infine abbiamo fatto le noccioline, e con Cettina un accenno di jacquard (ed è stata proprio brava). Insomma, anche con loro ho concluso, ma è stata una bella soddisfazione perchè hanno imparato tante cose molto velocemente. Buon proseguimento di lavoro a maglia, ragazze!

Yesterday, last wednesday knitting class. Celeste has brougth a wonderful knitted afghan in white and grey, and a yellow scarf with a nice big cable (Christmas present). Barbara has decided to realize a cardigan from an old knitting book of the seventies, and we read the pattern together. Cettina has learned to knit bobbles, and has begun with colorwork tecniques. So, that's all with this class. Have a nice time knitting, girls!

Ultima lezione (Last knitting class)

Ieri pomeriggio ho concluso il mio corso del martedì. Dopo ampia discussione, le ragazze hanno deciso che volevano imparare le noccioline: quindi ne abbiamo fatte di diversi tipi... su cinque maglie, su tre maglie, a diritto, a rovescio.... Abbiamo riempito di palline tutta la maglia rasata! Ho portato con me la lana che ho tinto: erano estasiate! Oggi pomeriggio concluderò anche il corso di maglia del mercoledì. Non so se farò altri corsi... il piccino ha cominciato a gattonare e vuole giocare sempre, e lasciarlo coi nonni è sempre più difficile. E' stata comunque una bella esperienza che si potrà ripetere magari quando sarà un pò più grandetto.

Yesterday I concluded my Tuesday knitting class, and today's evening I'm going to do last wednesday class. I don't know if I will run other classes, because my baby is growing up fast and he wants to play, and sing, and walk so I can't leave him with my parents for such a long time. It's been such a wonderful experience that I hope to repeat it again in the future... who knows?

Soddisfazioni (Satisfactions)

Ecco i risultati delle operazioni di tintura del weekend: la lana viola/verdina è già diventata il dietro di un maglione, che viene perfettamente a righe, e l'altra lana... beh, a me sembra che abbia tinte stupende! Ne ho tre gomitoli da 50 gr, 150 m. a gomitolo. Accetto consigli su cosa farla diventare...

Here are the results of my dyeing trials of the weekend: the green/purple yarn has yet become the back of a sweater, and it comes out perfectly selfstriping, and the other... well, I think it has so wondeful shades! I have three skeins of it, 50 g. and 150 m. each. I'm waiting for you to give me knitting ideas for them!

Ho tinto la lana! (I dyed yarn!)

Fine settimana di esperimenti. Ho deciso di provare a tingere la lana. Ho fatto due prove: una con la lana bianca comprata in offerta: 6 gomitoli di mohair, tinti a freddo in viola e verdino. I colori sono venuti molto chiari. Un altro tentativo su 3 gomitoli rosa sempre mohair, tinti questa volta a caldo con colori bellissimi: dal viola all'arancione. Non ho fotografato le procedure perchè ero troppo presa, ma la prossima volta documenterò il tutto! Infine, ho terminato la "sciarpa come il mare", anche questa un regalo di Natale, ed ho cominciato le Monkey socks!

This weekend I did some experiments. I tried to dye yarn. I did two dyes: one with 6 white mohair balls, with cold water. The shades went out very light, purple and green. The other with 3 pink mohair balls, with warm water: wonderful shades in purple and orange! I didn't take pictures of the procedures because I was too committed, but next time I won't miss. At last, I finished my "sea scarf", which is another Christmas present, and I started my first Monkey socks!

Sincronismi

Si avvicina l'orario di uscita dall'ufficio, per ora le 14 visto che sono ancora in allattamento. Tre minuti fa si è buttato il diluvio. Anche ieri è andata così. Ma c'ho la pioggia sincronizzata col badge????

Pacchetto! (Parcel!)

Ieri a pranzo è arrivato il pacchetto della mia Secret Knitting Pal Europe Marylyn! E' veramente bellissimo! C'era una borsetta con su ricamato YARN, che mi serviva perchè la borsetta rossa in cui tenevo le calzine in corso di lavorazione si è rotta, una matassa di lana Araucania tinta a mano per le calze, due gomitolini rosa di cotone/angora sofficissimi, dei ferri a doppia punta lilletti, un cioccolattino ed un profumabiancheria. Mi ha mandato anche una simpatica cartolina con le pecore! So già cosa fare con la lana per le calze: le Monkey! Orgogliosissima del mio pacchetto ieri l'ho portato al corso di maglia per farlo vedere alle allieve: erano incantate!

Barbara è venuta al corso con un bellissimo cappotto di maglia che ha comprato, con un sacco di lane e punti diversi, ed una bella spilla abbinata. Complimenti, è stupendo! Le ragazze hanno finito il davanti ed il dietro del maglioncino, a cui ieri hanno fatto il collo con la chiusura del tubolare. Sono state proprio brave. Hanno anche cominciato le manichette... la prossima è l'ultima lezione!

Yesterday, at lunch time, my parcel from my secret knitting pal Marylyn has arrived! How wonderful it is! There was a little bag, that I needed for because the bag in which I usually keep the socks I'm knitting has a hole, a lovely REAL HANDPAINTED SOCKYARN SKEIN, which is impossible to find here in Palermo, that I will transform in Monkey socks as soon as possible, two pink balls of soft cotton/angora, with which I can make a hat, purple double pointed needles, a chocolate (that I eated almost immediately), and a lavender smelling little cushion that I've put among my lingerie. I brought my parcel to my knitting class, to let the girls look at it: they were amazed!

Barbara came with a lovely knitted overcoat that she has bought, worked with different yarns and stitches, and closed with a very nice pin! The girls worked on the neck of the tiny sweater they're realizing, and they tried the tubular cast off. Very good work! Next time we'll do the sleeves, and that will be the last lesson!

Come cresce! (How fast it grows!)

La mia "sciarpa come il mare" cresce velocissima! Ho appena cominciato il secondo gomitolo ed è già bella lunga. E' super morbida ed ha delle sfumature stupende. Sono proprio contenta!

My "sea scarf " grows so fast! I've begun the second yarn ball ed it is so long yet . It's super soft and it has wonderful shades. I'm so happy!

Una nuova sciarpa (a new scarf)

Ho praticamente finito tutti i regali di Natale a maglia, così mi trovo con i ferri scarichi.... ma non per molto. Stamattina ho deciso di mettere in borsa un gomitolo di Grignasco Snowball (ne ho comprati 4 ad una svendita ad 1 € il gomitolo!) e, nel tragitto in macchina fra Sferracavallo e casa di mia suocera Ezia, circa 20 minuti in macchina, ho sferruzzato un pezzetto di sciarpa. L'etichetta diceva di usare i ferri 7-8, ma a me piacciono le sciarpe molto morbide e la lana è tutta riccia, così ho usato i 10. Ho montato 30 maglie e sto procedendo a legaccio, la mia passione. Sarà che si chiama Snowball, ma a me ricorda il mare delle foto del post di ieri....

I've almost finished all my knitted Christmas gifts, so my needles are taking a rest... but not for long. This morning I put in my bag a skein of Grignasco Snowball (I bought 4 in a sale, only 1 € the ball!) and while I was in the car in the back seat, going to my mother-in-law's house to leave my baby (more or less 20 minutes of journey), I knitted a bit of a scarf. I should have used needles 7-8 mm, but I preferred 10 mm because I like a more soft work. I casted on 30 stitches and went on with garter stitch (that I love). The name of the wool is Snowball, but it reminds me a lot the pictures of the sea I published in the last post....

Brutto tempo (bad weather)

Il fine settimana è stato contrassegnato da un vento fortissimo. Naturalmente il mare era agitato ed ho scattato qualche foto. Sarà che lo chiamiamo brutto tempo, ma quando è così il mare dà il meglio di sè. E comunque, stando a casa, sono riuscita a finire un altro regalo di Natale: ho preparato delle pantofole a maglia: ho fatto tutto io! La suola in pelle, cucita a macchina da me, ho messo dentro una suola con appoggio confort, e poi il calzino cucito lungo il bordo. Spero solo vada bene la misura....

Il fine settimana ha portato anche un bellissimo regalo: è nato il mio nipotino (figlio del fratello di mio marito Alessandro). Il piccino è nato con un mese e mezzo di anticipo, però sta bene ed adesso è in incubatrice, uscirà i primi dell'anno nuovo. Anche la sua mamma è in forma ed è già a a casa. Benvenuto Umbertino!

This weekend bad weather, with a very strong wind. There were so high waves that I couldn't resist to take some pictures. This is normally called "bad weather", but actually these are the moments in which the sea shows its true beauty. Staying home, I finished another Christmas gift: some shoes/socks! Yes, they are socks with the sole (I did them entirely by myself!). I only hope the size is correct. This weekend brought another surprise: a child is born! He is my nephew (the son of Alessandro's brother), and he arrived one month and a half before the expected day. He is still at the hospital, but he's fine. He will go home only at the beginning of the new year. His mother is fine too. So, welcome little Umberto!

Esperimenti (Experiments)

Ieri mi è presa una nuova mania: voglio tingere la lana. Ho tre gomitoli rosa di mohair avanzati da un maglione coi quali vorrei fare una sciarpa. Ho letto diversi tutorial, fra cui questo (con il methodo cold pour), su come fare per tingere la lana e trasformarla in lana multicolor. Non riesco più a ritrovarli tutti, ma vi farò vedere come ho fatto. Non sembra troppo difficile. Ho comprato in un negozio di materiali per artisti (colori, pennelli, ecc.) del colore per tessuti in polvere, nelle tinte viola, verde scuro e salmone, marca La Nave. Vi farò sapere!

Il concerto gospel del 10 dicembre ai Cappuccini è rimandato al 6 gennaio. Siete avvisati!

Yesterday I decided that my next challenge will be dyeing yarn. I have three skeins of pink mohair, with which I would like to do a scarf, but I would prefer it multicolor... I've read different tutorials, like this one (cold method), and I will post on this blog how I will try. It doesn't seem too difficult. I've bought some powder colors for textiles (La Nave colors) in an artist materials shop, in violet, dark green and salmon. I will report all the procedures!

Corso e mini maglioncino (knitting class and mini sweater)

Ieri corso del mercoledì: mancava solo Manuela che era impegnata col lavoro, e mi sa che non potrà venire neanche la prossima volta.... Agatina è dovuta scappare presto quindi non c'è nella foto. Le altre sono andate benissimo: hanno fatto l'avvio a tubolare e hanno creato il dietro di un mini maglioncino, con gli scalfi e lo scollo. Per la prossima volta porteranno il davanti, ed insieme faremo le manichette.

Yesterday knitting class: Manuela was missing, because she was at work, and maybe she won't be able to come next class too... Agatina went away soon, so she isn't in the picture. The others learned the tubular cast on and on it they created the back of a small sweater, with the decreases for the sleeves and the neck. At home, they will work at front. Next time we'll do the sleeves.

Allieve disperse.. (students missing..)

Ieri lezione di maglia solo con due allieve. Barbara ha avuto un problema con Lawrence, il suo bassotto, al quale è venuto il colpo della strega (che vita da cani... è il caso di dire!), Antonella aveva fatto il vaccino anti-influenzale e non si sentiva tanto bene, quindi è venuta ma è andata via subito. Con Valeria e Carmela abbiamo fatto il dietro di un mini maglioncino, con gli scalfi manica e lo scollo: è venuto proprio bene! Valeria ha realizzato delle deliziose scarpine rosse natalizie per il nipotino di Antonella e le ha portate: non sono tenerissime?

Yesterday knitting class with two students only. Barbara was at home with her dog, who was ill, and Antonella was a bit flu so she went away after few minutes. Valeria and Carmela are trying to realize a tiny cardi: we did the back, with the decreases for the slevees and the neck. Valeria brought some baby booties for Antonella's baby nephew: they are so cute, aren't they?
